Lateral stability of glued laminated beams
Equations are derived for critical buckling stress and allowable design stress for rectangular timber beams with various support and load conditions; laboratory tests show that recommended formulas for design provide factor of safety ranging from 2.5 for short beams to 3.0 for long beams and that resistance to lateral buckling is influenced by bracing that is present; type of compression flange bracing required to prevent lateral buckling is recommended.
