During filling of reservoir in Kauner Valley in Austria 20 million cu m of debris started to move; measurements and rheological investigations provide information about behavior of this unstable slope; conclusions can be evaluated as large-scale test; slope movements appeared in moraine; mass displacement which followed as consequence of reservoir-filling was compensated by corresponding slope movements; it was found that small reduction of shear stress was sufficient to bring movement to halt; this behavior can be traced back to resolidification of moraine; it was possible to control rate of sliding and to hold it within limits by filling reservoir in stages.
