Bolted joints with plates of different thickness
Effect of difference in thickness of main plates in joint bolted with high tensile bolts has been investigated for 1 in. plates joined to 7/8 in. and 15/16 in. plate, respectively; efficiency in resisting slip is reduced with increased difference of main-plate thickness; number of rows of bolts and distance of first row from edge of thinner plate are significant factors which may be used to restore to some extent such loss in efficiency.
