Portage mountain project spillway and low level outlet works
Portage Mountain Project is located on Peace River in western Canada; construction of project is well advanced; major features included 183 m high earthfill dam, 10 unit, 2,270,000 kw underground powerhouse, low level outlets, and chute spillway; first three units are scheduled to be on line by end of 1968; 15-yr flood of 7650 cms was exceeded by 1965 flood of 8800 cms occurring at most critical phase of cofferdamming; diversion tunnels are being converted to permanent low level outlets for passing compensation water during reservoir filling period and during any subsequent periods of complete powerhouse shutdown.
