Discharge of flood flows through Wells hydrocombine
Wells Hydroelectric Project, 820,000 kw, is located on Columbia River in Central Washington and develops 22 m of available hydraulic head between upstream Chief Joseph Project and downstream Rocky Reach Project; 1360 m long dam consists of single concrete structure 345 m long and earth embankments extending to abutments; single concrete structure consists of 10 generating units, 11 spillway openings, two end walls which provide support for adjacent earth embankments and contains fish passage facilities and switchyard; model was used to investigate ability of spillway to safely pass design flood of 33,400 cms.
