Texas builds habitat-like hotel
Texas version of Habitat '67 under construction in San Antonio is described; each of 496 rooms was cast in one piece of reinforced concrete at casting yard and delivered to site on low-slung trucks; room was then picked up by 300 ton crane, with 270 ft boom, and hoisted to its place in hotel structure; plates embedded in concrete floors and ceilings enabled each room to be welded to one above and below it; steel reinforcing rod at each corner also extend to meet similar rods from adjoining rooms for welding, so each room is to structure and to other rooms; light weight aggregate was used for concrete; hotel is 21 story structure and two stories are below grade.
