Calculation of internal temperatures -- Demonstration experiment
Air and sol-air temperatures external to concrete box 5 ft square and 3 ft high were measured, and from these data and knowledge of thermal properties of box, expected internal temperature was calculated, using 'matrix' method of Muncey; in several configurations (windowless, forced ventilation, windows, and heated internally) calculated values were compared with measured internal temperatures; diurnal ranges of internal temperatures were often 60 F and discrepancies in comparison were generally of order of 1 F or less; this error is satisfactorily small and suggests that this method and others adopting comparable assumptions can reasonably be used in thermal calculations for buildings.
