Triaxial shear characteristics of compacted glacial till under unusually high confining pressures
Equipment and techniques used and results obtained from series of triaxial shear tests on 6-in. diam specimens of glacial till compacted at three different moisture contents, and used as core material for exceptionally high rockfill dam; tests were carried out at unusually high confining pressures, up to 450 psi; high confining pressures had little effect on shear-strength parameters of till in terms of effective stresses, but there was considerable effect on pore-pressure parameter which is increased from usual low value for this type of material as confining pressure is increased.
