In-situ investigation of foundation soil by means of horizontal loading tests in borehole using Koegler apparatus
Latter consists basically of 6 cm diam, 50 to 100 cm long cylindrical rubber probe which is lowered into freshly drilled borehole; probe is connected to small water tank equipped with manometer; necessary pressure for producing radial expansion of probe is obtained from compressed air cylinder; analysis of soil settlement curves obtained yields mechanical properties of soil, such as modulus of volume change, and ultimate stress.
