Experimental study of flow of water through coarse granular media
Permeability characteristics of variety of coarse noncohesive granular materials were determined from tests in 22 in. diam permeameter; materials included crushed rock, sand and river gravel up to 6 in. in size and glass spheres from 16 to 29 mm diam; special provision was made to exclude wall effects; velocities, based on gross cross-sectional area, ranged from 10-6 to 1.5 fps and hydraulic gradients from 10-4 to 10; water was used as permeating fluid.
