Experimental sand drain fill at Napa river
Experimental fill at Napa River, Calif, was constructed to obtain information on action of sand drains used to accelerate consolidation of soft, fine-grain soils; it was found that sand drains did not accelerate consolidation of soft foundation soil as rapidly as theory would indicate; it appears that method of placing sand drains with closed mandrel was one of main causes of reduction in expected rate of consolidation.
