Modulus of soil reaction as determined from triaxial shear test
Theory of M.G.Spangler received only limited use, partially because of inability to determine proper numerical value of modulus of soil reaction; paper by J.Q.Burns, and R.M.Richard, indexed in Engineering Index 1965 p 262, solved problem of buried conduit, using theory of elasticity by assuming ideal elastic conditions; modulus of soil reaction was determined from triaxial shear test; data obtained from triaxial shear test are used to calculate modulus of soil reaction which is then compared with value measured in modpares device constructed by R.K.Watkins and F.D.Nielson.
