Stabilisation of difficult ground in shaft collar
Techniques and stages of sinking operations used in sinking of shaft to be 6500 ft deep and 29 ft 6 in. diam inside circular concrete lining with precast prestressed brattice wall running from top to bottom dividing shaft into hoisting and ventilation compartments; preliminary stabilization, installation of cables, resumption of sinking by caisson, and final toe-in are described.
