Scale consists of pair of wheel load transducers and associated electronic recording instruments; transducers, each of which is 50 × 20 in. in plan dimensions and only slightly over 1 in. thick, are simple in design, rugged, and portable; transducers can be installed in any smooth roadway surface including rigid pavements and bridge decks; initial installation requires approximately 3 hr, but subsequent installation at previously occupied site requires only about 30 min; equipment was used in experimental stage of scale development.
