Filament wound mast
Glass-epoxy filament wound sailboat mast is superior to wood or aluminum in elastic memory; during tests, effect of wind was simulated at velocity of 15 fps acting on sail of 40 sq ft with resultant load of 22 lb; filament wound mast returned to original position after deflecting 4 in. more than wooden mast; maintenance requirements are lower than wood or aluminum.
