Calculation of continuous steel purlins in sloping roofs using ultimate load method; carrying capacity of purlins subjected to combined bending about x and y axes is investigated for cases where one or two tie rods are fastened to center of span and to point at one-third length of span; new formulas derived assure safety against overturning of purlins until ultimate load is reached, and allow using 20% lighter purlin sections than conventional methods.
