A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Subgrade subsidence causes slabs to tilt leading to subsequent surface damage; filling sub-slab voids with grout restores surface grade; holes are drilled through pavement, generally at about 6-ft intervals, varying according to site needs; process consists of pumping finely ground limestone or sand and portland cement mixtures through holes cut in pavement to fill voids; equipment comprises concrete or pug-mill-type mixer, positive displacement type hydraulic jacking unit with controls for regulating pumping pressure, concrete buggy, water tank, dump truck, portable air compressor, pneumatic hammer with 2-1/2 in. rock drills, wooden plugs, and hand tools such as sledges, shovels and brooms; asphalt pavement is patched in usual way.
