Municipal Sports Center in Nanterre, France; 72×66 m building houses 50×20 m Olympic swimming pool with 500-seat grandstand, 44×24m gymnasium with 800-seat grandstand, and auxiliary rooms; 3750 sq m outdooe solarium with circular wading pool is provided; two 3.0× 2.5 m rectangular piers placed at 40 m c-to-c at midwidth of building, support 66 m long 6 m high prestressed concrete trapezoidal box beam with 4.5 m and 2.5 m bases, forming 13 m cantilever at each pier; this single beam constitutes backbone of roof consisting of 13 transversal prestressed concrete V-shaped shells forming two 33-in. spans freely supported on steel posts of glazed walls.
