Ferro-manganese pavement on San Pablo Seamount
Crest and flanks of San Pablo Seamount are completely enveloped by extensive ferro-manganese pavement; pavement is well bedded throughout and lacks depositional nuclei characteristic of manganese nodules; there is remarkably constant manganese concentrations throughout deposits, whereas iron concentrations can be shown to increase with depth; assuming manganese pavement thickness of only 1 ft, estimated tonnage of ferro-manganese ore above 1000 fathom contour alone would amount to over 10 million tons.
