Powerful jacks raise hangar roof
Twelve hydraulically operated screw jacks synchronized to work in extremely short-stroke increments of 1 mm and each capable of exerting 600 ton thrust over stroke of 10 ft were used to raise roof of hangar at London's Heathrow Airport; roof was fabricated on ground and raised 50 ft into position in three-stage operation extending over about three weeks.
