It is shown how utilization of cement-sand-water slurry instead of compacted backfill made it possible to cut 5 mo from 13-mo pipe job in construction of 49-mi network of irrigation lines; grout is discharged in two passes; after grout has hardened around pipe, rest of trench can be filled with dirt without need of compaction.
