A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Contributions of three 17th century scientists, and their influence on development of hydrology are reviewed; P.Perrault proved by experimental investigations that rainfall is adequate to sustain river flows; his concept was affirmed by E.Mariotte, who used precise field investigations; E.Halley, by his pioneering experiments on evaporation, proved that enough water is evaporated from oceans to come down as rainfall to sustain river flows; experimental investigations described established hydrologic cycle.
