New hotel is under construction, interesting feature of which is three level 12.20 m deep basement which extends over whole area of 64.05 m×47.30 m site; two lower levels are for car parking and upper level for hotel administration and services; frame is of reinforced concrete construction with exception of half of basement area constructed in structural steel; diaphragm retaining wall surrounds site supported at each basement level by structural frame which has spread foundations on London Clay; steel-frame basement construction is described.
