Maine State Highway Commission decided to use bituminous concrete to reduce surface maintenance; projects called for pitrun gravel base to strengthen subgrade; 24-in. blanket was used in cuts, and 18 in. on fills; total of 88,000 tons of mix was used at average of $ 7.65 per ton; data on pavement thickness, aggregate gradations and asphalt percentages.
