Pittsburgh's squirrel hill tunnel
Tunnel will measure 4225 ft between portal faces; each of reinforced concrete twin tunnels, 60 ft c to c, will contain 24-ft roadway and 2 ft 7 1/2 in. service walk; reinforced concrete lining will have minimum thicknesses of 27 in. in walls and 23 in. in arched roof; boring performed by three deck steel frame drill jumbo; holes are loaded with 40% strength gelatin dynamite, and fired by electric blasting caps.
