Retsof mine, in Livingston County, NY: about 130 employees underground and 100 on surface produce and process 4000 to 4500 tons of rock salt daily during one 9 hr shift; only one fatality has occurred since Dec 1923; shaft is about 1150 ft deep; panel room and pillar method of mining; each panel is about 500 to 2000 ft; drilling, blasting, etc; health and safety facilities.
