Mechanically compacted gravel housing estate road
Compaction of layer of various combinations of coarse material, sand and silt was performed by rolling without addition of stabilising agents such as cement and bitumen; specification required that completed foundation was to give minimum dry density of 125 lb per cu ft; data on density tests with gravel containing different percentages of sand.
