Careened drydock passes through Panama canal locks
Passage of certain types of floating drydocks through Panama Canal involved difficult problem because their width was greater than lock width of 110 ft; transfer of center section necessitated careening operation, rotating section by 90°; it was achieved by adding 960 pontoon boxes to one of sidewalls, which were filled with water; process was reversed for righting.
