Diesel dredges open up Louisiana oil fields
All steel dredge, Harvey, built by Alexander Shipyard, New Orleans, was designed specially for oil field service; length 77 ft; width 28 ft; draft 7 1/2 ft; 6-cyl Atlas Imperial Diesel, developing 200 hp at 514 rpm, is direct connected to main dredge pump through Falk flexible coupling; suction is 12 in., discharge 10 in.; pumping capacity is rated at about 200 yd per hr, depending on type of soil; dredge will handle mud, shell, grass or clay.
