Report on failure of masonry arch bridge over Barakar river, India, consisting of nine 50-ft spans, built 1840; cause of failure was poor pier foundation; after collapse in 1911, screw pile bridge was built on new site, consisting of 5 spans, 105 ft each, of steel truss girders; in 1946, this bridge too collapsed, again because of foundation.
