Timber beams reinforced with spiral-drive dowels
Study of effect of reinforcing timber beams with screw dowels, and of splicing two shallow beams; dowels are essentially twisted steel pins with spirally grooved ridges for entire length; effect of dowel reinforcement on properties of timber beams; tests indicate that such beam will carry as much ultimate load as solid one, but with about twice deflection.
