Wooden blanks for contraction joints
Use of wooden blanks to make dummy contraction joints in concrete pavements instead of placing some sort of mastic material in groove formed in pavement, is recent development in California highway practice; blanks, 1/4-in. thick and 2 in. wide, are placed in concrete about 1/4-in. below finished surface so that crack will appear in pavement.
