Notes on slime residue and tailing dams
Method used on Witwatersrand in building slime dams is to build impounding dam progressively with walls of partially dried and compacted slime itself as it is discharged; resulting dam therefore consists of shell or crust of nearly dried slime, retaining center mass of more or less wet slime; stability of dam depends on maintaining outer layer as dry as possible; choice of dam site; general layout; progressive steps in building dam. (See also - discussion p 239-47)
