Steel tube piles for 100-ton loads
Concentration of heavy equipment and walls in new telephone building at Oakland, Calif, results in loads up to 18,300 psf in part of foundation area to be supported by steel tubes driven to 80-ft depths and then emptied by air and water jets; filled with concrete, these tubes are to take loads up to 100 tons each, with similar long time settlement rate to 5-ft concrete slab under remainder of building, carrying only one-third the loading.
