Boston pre-stressed concrete highway bridge
Nunn's Bridge, over Hob Hole drain at Fishtoft, Lincs, England, has span of 74 ft and depths of 50 in.; structure is slab beam type with transverse stiffeners; each beam contains 12 cables of 1 in. diam each; when concrete reached specified strength of 6000 lb per sq in. tension of nearly 70 tons per sq in. was applied to cable; initial compression of nearly 2000 lb per sq in. was thus induced in bottom flange of beams.
