Iowa's stop-gap resurfacing program speeds highway improvement
Following spring breakup of 1951, 1000 mi of Iowa highway was estimated to be in deteriorating condition; by patching old surface with applications of two 1 1/2 in. courses of hot mix bituminous material 500 mi of deficient paving will be reconditioned at cost of about $15,000 per mile by end of 1952, eliminating delay of 15 to 22 years required for complete modernization program.
