Chew stoke reservoir: notes on design of reservoir
Reservoir to impound River Chew, England, has catchment of 14,200 acres; water area will be 1170 acres; capacity of 4,500,000,000 gal can balance runoff in three dry years; data on geological conditions; dam is earth structure, 40 ft high, with 5-ft wide concrete cutoff; dam which rests on silty clay up to 18 ft in depth, required improvement of stability by studding area of silt with sand wells of 10 in. in diam; provision for flood discharge. (see also Surveyor v 111 n 3132 Mar 15 1952 p 181-2)
