Water-cooling structure at oil refinery
Water cooling system at Shell Petroleum Co, Stanlow, Cheshire, includes reinforced concrete culverts, bridges and cooling tower; culverts 8 ft 3 in. in diam were constructed mainly in open sheet piled trenches; construction joints at intervals of 20 ft are sealed by perforated strip of copper; cooling tower is 342 ft high, 260 ft diam at base; cooling stack, 40 ft high, is of precast concrete.
