Cost savings anticipated from new culvert design
Size of main barrel of culvert reduced through use of flared inlet to improve hydraulic efficiency of structure on Pacific Highway in Oregon; use of flared inlets for some large arch culverts made it possible to substitute 10-ft arch barrels for 12-ft barrels; advantages are obtained only when grade of culvert is over 1%.
