Experimental study of load bearing capacity of sand under foundations built directly on surface
152 tests were made with sands from quarry of Mol, of various volumetric weights, screened to 0.589 mm mesh size; equipment used in tests; "critical compactness" of sand is determining factor for failure by subsidence and compressibility of sand determines limit of failure by displacement.
