Cementation of steels by special manganese alloys
Characteristics of cementation obtained from hard, semi-hard, and soft steels with ordinary spiegel, ferromanganese, and ferromanganosilico-aluminum are described, and hardness values are given; best cementations were obtained when 2.5 per cent each of ammonium chloride and alumina were mixed with cement, and heating carried out for 4 hours at 900 to 1040 deg., but penetration was progressively less marked for successive cementations.
