One of sanitary sewers being built by towns is 24-in. line laid in trench from 23 to 10 ft. deep, which passes under tracks of Erie railroad at depth of 19 ft.; soil is hard, red clay interspersed, with gravel from small size to quite large; excavation of trench is carried on almost entirely by two men and Star power shovel used as trench machine, run by one operator.
