Deep rock foundations for a bank and office building
For this $4,000,000 structure, many piers were carried through wet, treacherous earth and rotten rock in pits carefully sheeted and drained by heavy pumping; costly installation of pneumatic caissons was avoided by careful operation and use of modern devices for successfully carrying on this class of construction; building covers entire city block bounded by Broadway and Amsterdam Ave. and by 73rd and 74th streets, with maximum length and width of 200 and 130 ft.
