A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Preservation of timber is considered, from point of view of protecting it from fungi and insect attacks rather than for fire protection; average life of untreated timbers underground is assumed as 3 yr, and that of treated timber as 15 yr; comparative calculations showing actual annual cost of treated and untreated timber; it is estimated that required life of 4 yr would justify use of treated timber.
