A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
To prevent further landslides of bluff 180 ft high, near Santa Monica, Calif, network of interconnected tunnels and drill holes was driven into clay stratum at base of bluff and air heated by specially built natural-gas furnace blown through to dry out clay and increase coefficient of friction along slickensided stratum; outward movement measured; present condition of strata.
