Effect of calcium chloride on cement
Cement or concrete mixed with solution of calcium chloride sets more rapidly than when mixed with water; during aging for 1/3 months compression strength of cement mixtures containing calcium chloride increases more slowly than that of chloride-free mixtures, but is always 5-20 per cent greater; calcium chloride is suitable addition agent for cement mixtures made in frosty weather, owing to rapid setting and heat evolution produced.
