Subsoil sewage disposal system for septic tank effluents
Type of tanks employed in Maine; 3-ft wide trench is filled with coarse gravel up to foot above bottom; trough of 2-in. hemlock planks was constructed; 1-ft crushed rock and coarse gravel filled up to surface; such trenches distribute tank effluent near surface of ground where it partly evaporates and partly percolates to water table.
