Enlargement of the Panama canal facilities
Madden Dam project, estimated to cost $15,000,000 has threefold purposes: to increase reserve water supply; to provide additional hydroelectric power; to control floods of Chagres River; project includes main dam, straight concrete gravity structure of generous section to limit stresses in foundation; below dam there will be power plant provided for 3 generators of 8000 kw. capacity each; left wing of main dam will be formed by earth, gravel and rock-fill dam with concrete face slab.
