A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Adequate insulation is control of air flow through structures; function of heating is to keep occupants comfortably warmed; two influences promote wasteful air flow through structures in cold weather; one is wind pressure; other influence is chimney action, due to elevation of indoor temperature above that out of doors; stratification; when building leaks heat excessively or when total capacity of plant is lacking for quick start on cold morning, indoor temperatures may be satisfactorily maintained by working heating plant continuously.
