One possible simplification in recommendations for design of reinforced concrete columns
Various modes of failure of short reinforced concrete column are discussed; it is shown that in attempting to define true shape of strength envelope for columns controlled by tension recommendations of British Standard CP 114 (1957) neglect one probable mode of failure; simple linear approximation to shape of this envelope is proposed, which is similar to recommendations already used for columns controlled by compression.
